"The name '60 Hertz', although it has nothing to do with age references, certainly sit well on this bunch of 'old guys'. Not only have the band members been musical comrades for many years, their musical instruments have been around for much of that ride. James Neve's acoustic Larrivee guitar must be one of the earliest instruments made by that premier luthier Jean Larrivee. Dave Birch's bass was old when he purchased it back in the 70's. So there you have it - old musicians, old instruments and modern technology, all combined with the finest of song writing. The results are performances that continue to sparkle regardless of how many times the band has been out there." - Rod Wilson, Cranbrook Daily Townsman.
James Neve (Neve like āSteveā not Neve like Campbell) is the writer, guitarist and lead vocalist; Dave Birch is the hyperactive bass player that occasionally breaks into a curious little duck foot dance step as he plays and sings backup; have been playing music together for nearly 40 years. They, along with Rob Young and Loretta Taylor, were founding members of the Western Canadian rock quintet from the 70ā²s, Tennyson Finch. Rob is the master of the many moods and effects of his Stratocaster guitar. Marty Musser creates the hammock with his rock solid drumming style, sense of volume and dynamics. Their tight weave of vocal and instrumental lines are evidence of a strong melodic influence ranging from the early Beatles to Crowded House and Dire Straits.
The original music of 60 Hertzās (written by James Neve) and arranged by the band, flows easily from country-feel ballads to folksy rock, but always with an honest, simple and personal touch. 60 Hertz knows how to captivate their audience by creating and delivering their original music with an engaging and fresh stage presence, that is a real treat to experience. They released their long anticipated first CD entitled āTime Stands Stillā this last summer.
With 12 original songs the album explores some of the contemporary folk rock adult alternative idom ā such as recent events and the social and political engines that create the tapestry for such stories. Like āMean Streetsā a story of a young woman caught up in the downtown eastside drug and sex trade ā falling to the bottom; leaving a legacy of sad failing health and inadvertently infecting her clients with AIDS so that in the end ā they too pay a high price.
"This is a rock quartet with polish, panache and originality....probably the tightest and most original group in the East Kootenays." - Rod Wilson
