My first experience listening to Elena play was at the 2010 SAMS Gala where she put on a nice short set with an acoustic guitar. I thought I knew what to expect for her headline show at The Snoring Sasquatch, but the evening blew me away. This lady can play the banjo and really rip the vocal! Joined on stage by Juno nominated artist Anne Louise Genest, the duo harmonized beautifully on songs ranging from folk, bluegrass, and even some ditties from a "fabled" childrens album.
The sound was warm and comforting while at the same time haunting and driving, honestly like nothing I have ever heard before. Between songs was filled with short tales of friendship and comradery which brought the audience into Elena's moment. The only thing to outshine the music was the beaming personality of the performers throughout the evening, its no wonder Elena is a fan favorite in Creston.
